A Weekend in Charleston - Restaurant Edition

Visiting the Holy City for the weekend? Here are some of favorite places to go!

Breakfast

Millers All Day

This place is not only cute but also the food is amazing. Some of my favorites are the Millers Plate, Cinnamon Rolls and the Waffles. There is typically at least an hour wait on the weekends so plan ahead!

Paige’s Okra Grill

You can always expect a wait here but trust me it is worth it! Paige’s is known for their Bloody Mary’s and luckily they have a side bar so you can drink one while you wait. My typical order is a mimosa, fried okra, loaded tater tots, and the Coleman.

5 Church

5 Church is great for any time of the day. I also highly recommend their lunch and dinner menus but they also have a great Sunday brunch. I love their Mimosa Sampler where you can try 4 mimosas with different juices. If you’re hungry and willing to share with a friend try their Holy Shit Breakfast. This gigantic meal comes with fried chicken, eggs, bacon, donuts, biscuits, jam and 2 mimosas.

Dispensary

Dispensary has great drinks and food! If you’re looking for a quieter brunch place this is it. I love their hot chicken biscuit and white cheddar grits for brunch!

Lunch

Caviar and Bananas

Caviar is my go to lunch spot. As a student at the College of Charleston, Caviar and Bananas was basically on our campus. I ate there almost everyday in undergrad. I love their variety of coffees, salads, sandwiches and deli selections. My favorites are their Caprese Pasta Salad and Pimento Cheese BLT.

Basic Kitchen

If you’re vegan, vegetarian or just want to eat healthy Basic Kitchen is a great option. They are known for their delicious clean meals. My favorites are the Vegan Caesar and Cauli wings.

Carolina Ale House

If you’re looking for a sports pub to watch the game at Carolina Ale House is perfect. They have great food and an awesome view of Calhoun St and Marion Square. I love their Carolina Double Pimento Cheeseburger for lunch!

Verde

If you’re craving a salad Verde has you covered! Verde has every salad option you can imagine and can even turn your favorite salad into a wrap. The salads range from $7-$12 and are huge! I normally get their Chickpea salad!

Dinner

Malagan

If you love Spanish Tapas you have to go to Malagan. They have delicious wines and all the tapas your heart desires. They have everything from Iberian Ham and Cheese Boards to Paella and churros. This one of my favorite places to eat and I always leave in a food coma.

Halls Chophouse

Halls is delicious. It is definitely a special occasion meal because steaks start at $50. If you want to go to Halls make sure you make reservations in advance or you will probably not be getting in. Halls has amazing food but what truly sets them apart is their customer service. You will be treated like you are their top priority your entire meal.

Monza

Monza has amazing pasta and pizza! You can create custom brick oven pizzas or choose from a variety of homemade pastas. Their pizzas claim to be personal size but you can definitely get away with sharing them.

Taco Boy

If you’re looking for casual dining and enjoying fresh air then Taco Boy is for you. They have gorgeous space for laid back dining. You can sit inside or enjoy some time outside with your pups. Their food is pretty great too and its no surprise that they normally have at least an hour wait on the weekends. Their margaritas make the wait totally worth it! I normally get their frozen mango ones!

Felix Cocktails et Cuisine

Like their name states, Felix is known for their cocktails but they also have great French inspired food. They are located on upper king so if you are wanting a short walk to the bars after this is the perfect spot. I love their gnocchi for dinner and their French 75 to drink.

Drinks

The Watch

The Watch is located on top of the Restoration Hotel and has amazing view of the city. Their cocktail list and outdoor seating make this the perfect place to enjoy drinks. They also have great truffle fries if you’re looking for a snack.

The Vendue

The Vendue Hotel also has a great rooftop! Their bar is two stories so you can get full views of the city. Their drinks are a bit on the expensive side but are worth it. I love the Strawberry Basil Lemonade for summer nights.

Cocktails Club

Cocktail Club is a great chill bar. If you’re looking for crazy dancing then this is not the place for you. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are just a chill place to chat with friends. I love getting their Mai Tais and Green Tea shots.

If you’re visiting I hope you enjoy Charleston. I’ll be updating this post periodically with more recommendations so be sure to check back. If you have any specific questions feel free to email me or DM me on instagram!
