Homemade Chicken Nuggets

I love McDonald’s chicken nuggets. I know they are probably not even real chicken but there’s still something about them that’s good. These homemade nuggets are just as good, if not better because you know you are eating the real thing!

Makes around 12 nuggets

Ingredients:

For the chicken

  • 1 pound of ground chicken

  • 2 teaspoons of salt

  • 1 teaspoon of pepper

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch

For the batter

  • 3/4 cup of flour

  • 3/4 cup of cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon of paprika

  • 1 teaspoon of chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 2 teaspoons of salt

  • 1 teaspoon of pepper

  • 1.5 cup of water

  • 1/4 tablespoon of baking soda

Directions

  1. Combine your ground chicken. salt, pepper, cornstarch and garlic powder together in a bowl by hand.

  2. Then begin to shape your chicken mixture in to nuggets. Place your nuggets on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. It is normal for this mixture to be sticky.

  3. Place your tray of nuggets in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This will make them less sticky and easier to coat in the batter.

  4. While your nuggets are in the freezer, make your dry breading by combining four, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, chili powder and garlic powder.

  5. Remove your nuggets from the freezer and coat each on in the dry batter. Shake off any excess batter.

  6. Once all of the nuggets are coated in the dry batter, add your water and baking soda to the dry batter. The batter should not be thick.

  7. Dip your nuggets in the wet batter and then place them in hot oil to fry. I typically keep my oil on medium to low heat to avoid burning.

  8. Fry until golden brown.

  9. Transfer them to a paper towel to let excess oil drain out.

  10. Let cool and enjoy!
