My Experience Traveling Abroad During Coronavirus
I recently took a long weekend trip to Puerto Rico and had the best time! I took every precaution I could to make sure I stayed safe while traveling. Here are a few tips I learned while traveling outside the United States.
Familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations
Puerto Rico had many requirements to enter the country including different documents and covid results. Every country is different so be sure to check beforehand. You can find this information on the country’s website or department of health site.
Prepare ahead of time
PR required a covid test 72 hours before entering the island. If you did not get it done on your own you could get a test done at the airport. I did not want to start my vacation with a stick up my nose so I did it ahead of time and had my documents and it was a breeze. Otherwise, people had to wait in long lines for testing to exit the airport.
Just because you social distance does not mean everyone else will
Before traveling I had this idea that everyone was practicing social distancing. I expected the plane to sit every other seat and that ended up being far from the case. I flew on a packed plane. If it wasn't for everyone in masks you would have thought covid wasn't even a thing. Every seat was full and that was something I was not mentally prepared for.
Get a comfy mask
When traveling you will be wearing a mask a lot. I wore mine from the time I got to the airport to the time I landed and left another airport. I wish I had gotten a comfier mask because my ears were sore by the time I was able to take it off.
Traveling has changed since coronavirus but it was not as bad as I had expected. Taking precautions like a mask and hand sanitizer is important regardless if you are at the grocery store or in an airplane.
